A 10-year-old girl has died after she was flung from a ride during an annual harvest festival in New Jersey, CNN reports.
According to a statement from state police, the girl was ejected at 6:18 p.m. on Saturday. They state that the attraction she was on at the time was a Wisdom Super Sizzler ride called “Extreme.” CNN adds that the ride “spins passengers in a horizontal circle.“
As a result of the ejection she suffered serious injuries, was subsequently airlifted to a nearby hospital, and was pronounced dead roughly an hour after the accident occurred.
Her identity has not been revealed, and the event is currently under investigation. The company that operates the festival’s rides, Skelly’s Amusements, says that it’s in full cooperation with authorities on that investigation.
From a statement on its Facebook page, Skelly’s said “We are absolutely heartbroken. Words cannot express our feelings and we extend our deepest sympathies to the individual’s family and loved ones. We ask that you keep them in your thoughts.”
A Sunday festival parade was canceled, and rides and games have been closed until state officials can conduct an inspection. Other activities were slated to continue as scheduled.
