Eleven people are injured following a shooting in New Orleans on Sunday, CNN reports.
The shooting took place at around 3:21 a.m. local time on Canal Street near the edge of the city’s French Quarter. Officers were reportedly already in the vicinity because of the Bayou Classic football game. New Orleans Police Department spokesman Aaron Looney said that officers could hear gunshots when they arrived on the scene and immediately saw victims.
Five people were transported to the University Hospital while another five went to Tulane Hospital for treatment. The last person was a walk-in patient at a medical facility. Two of the injured victims are in critical condition after suffering respective wounds to their chest and torso. The identities of these victims have not been released, but the incident occurred where tourists are known to gather.
Police have detained one person that could be connected to the crime. Authorities have refrained from charging the suspect with a crime because they are still investigating their possible involvement.
