’21 Jump Street’ Director Reacts to Ye’s Post About Jonah Hill in the Movie

Written by on March 25, 2023

21 Jump Street co-director Christopher Miller has shared his reaction to the artist formerly known as Kanye West saying he likes Jewish people again after watching Jonah Hill in the film.

Miller, who co-directed the 2012 buddy cop comedy and its 2014 sequel with Phil Lord, is the first person involved with 21 Jump Street to comment on Ye’s bizarre post. “Um… thanks for watching?” he tweeted alongside an image of Ye’s original Instagram post.

Lord, meanwhile, retweeted a comment jokingly asking if there’s “anything” Lord and Miller can’t do. “Laughter is the best medicine,” he added in a response. The filmmaking duo don’t appear to know what to make of Ye’s admission, which is his first post on Instagram this year. Jonah Hill, who isn’t on social media, has yet to comment on the situation.

In a post on Instagram, Ye shared an image of the DVD cover for the film and appeared to suggest Hill’s performance was enough to stop him being anti-Semitic. “Watching Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street made me like Jewish people again,” wrote Ye in the caption. “No one should take anger against one or two individuals and transform that into hatred towards millions of innocent people. No Christian can be labeled antisemite knowing Jesus is Jew. Thank you Jonah Hill I love you.”

The moment has arrived after what can only be described as a disaster of a year for Ye, who embraced far-right and hateful rhetoric. He shared a number of worrying anti-Semitic remarks, and eventually was interviewed by conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. During that interview, he suggested he saw “good things about Hilter.” In 2022, Ye was suspended from multiple social media networks, and lost many of his major brand deals including Adidas.
