50 Cent on ‘Power’ Spinoffs Halted by COVID-19: ‘We Were the Last Production Still Working

Written by on March 16, 2020

Unsurprisingly, Starz made the decision last week to pull the plug “for now “on the production of two Power spinoffs due to the continued concerns surrounding COVID-19.

Now, Power executive producer 50 Cent has addressed the work halt, claiming in his brief statement on the matter that the two series—Power Book II: Ghost and Power Book III: Raising Kanan—were “the last” still in production following a litany of recently announced shutdowns.

“I had to do it,” he told fans on Instagram.

According to Deadline‘s Dominic Patten, both series shut down their NYC productions “for at least one week,” while their respective writers rooms were not shuttered due to the scripts for both already being finished. Another pair of spinoffs, Power Book IV: Influence and Power Book V: Force, are not close enough to production starts to have been affected.

And on Sunday, TMZ reported that 50 Cent had visited a strip club in NYC on Saturday night:

Other series productions of note to have hit the pause button in recent days include Donald Glover’s Atlanta, Disney’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, AMC’s The Walking Dead, Netflix’s Stranger Things, and more.

Over the weekend, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that entertainment venues including clubs and concert venues would be closing due to COVID-19.

“Starting Tuesday, March 17, restaurants, bars, and cafes may only serve food take-out and delivery,” de Blasio said in a news release. “Nightclubs, movie theaters, small theater houses, and concert venues must all close.”
