6ix9ine’s Lawyer on 2-Year Sentence: ‘The Best Thing to Come Out of Today Was Closure’

Written by on December 19, 2019

Following a sentencing hearing that notably occurred on the same day as Trump’s impeachment, 6ix9ine attorney Lance Lazzaro has shared some new comments on how his client is taking the news of his two-year sentence.

“We are a little disappointed, we were expecting time served because that is what the parole board recommended, but it was in the judge’s hands,” Lazzaro told HollywoodLife, per a report filed late Wednesday. “Daniel will have to serve another 7 months and 12 days because the time he’s already served will count towards his sentence.”

All told, Lazzaro added, the conclusion of the heavily publicized racketeering and firearms case has indeed taken a toll on his client. However, Lazzaro seems confident in what’s ahead.

“He’s feeling a little down right now but he’s strong, he’ll survive,” he said. “The best thing to come out of today was closure, he knows he’ll be home in July and then he can focus on rebuilding his career and relationships.”

During Wednesday’s hearing, as detailed by Complex’s own Shawn Setaro, 6ix9ine apologized for his involvement with Nine Trey.

“I was more worried about fame and success than my own and others’ well being,” he said. “I was weak. I was easily influenced.”

Next month, Complex and Spotify’s Angie Martinez-narrated docuseries Infamous: The Tekashi 6ix9ine Story is set to premiere.
