7-Year-Old Boy Calls 911 Because He Got Snow Pants for Christmas

Written by on December 28, 2018

Ontario Provincial Police have already declared that a 7-year-old boy has been “added to the naughty list” for Christmas next year after dialing 911 to complain about his gift. The call was made Tuesday at around 8 a.m. after the kid became upset over the snow pants he received.

Even though police weren’t dispatched to the scene, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt saw this incident as “an awareness and educational moment” that can teach children about making 911 calls. “Parents or caregivers need to make sure their children understand the consequences of calling 911 and what constitutes an emergency,” Schmidt told CTVNews.ca.

“Kids need to realize that calling 911 is critical and serious,” Schmidt added. “We don’t want to waste resources going after calls that aren’t an emergency.”

At the age of 7, there’s no way that something like a pack of socks comes close to being as valuable of a gift as, say, a video game. However, there comes a point in your life when these often overlooked items are running on their last leg, and you can’t wait for Christmas when your parents bless you with a fresh new pack. In those moments, a 911 call is replaced a “Thank God” shout to the heavens.
