2 Chainz Calls Out Nike for Ripping Off His Album Artwork

Written by on February 20, 2019

On Valentine’s Day, Nike gave its Zoom Fly SP runner a timely update in collaboration with artist Nathan Bell. The shoes feature a soft pink hue and are covered in graphics made up of Bell’s hand-drawn doodles. Nike’s product description says the design is intended to “celebrate running as a competition with yourself,” but one rapper is insinuating that the Swoosh may have found inspiration in one of his recent album covers.

Taking to Instagram, 2 Chainz addressed Nike and Bell’s design and went as far as to say he feels it was based off of his 2017 LP Pretty Girls Like Trap Music. “I’m happy I could influence you guys to make this shoe based off my last album #prettygirlsliketrapmusic!,” 2 Chainz wrote. “I met a few really good and cool [Nike] reps in Charlotte this past weekend and looking forward to speaking to someone soon about this!”

While one could certainly draw comparisons between the shades of pink used and the scribble-like fonts, it’s not the first time Nike has released similar sneakers. Bell’s Zoom Fly SP Fast includes details reminiscent of “Unkle” SB Dunk Highs along with did French DJ Busy P’s Air Force 1s collaborations in 2008.

Nike did not immediately return our request for comment.
