Lana Del Rey announced today that her eighth studio album Blue Banisters will arrive on October 22nd, and along with a pre-order link for the album she also dropped off a video for the new song “Arcadia.”
The new date comes after Lana originally slated Blue Banisters to arrive on July 4th, but bumped it days before its release. The coinciding music video for “Arcadia,” which Lana herself directed, finds the singer exploring both a hotel room and the stars as she croons happily about her figure with a smile on her face. “Arcadia” is the fourth track to be showcased from the upcoming project, as Lana previously dropped off “Blue Banisters,” “Textbook,” and “Wildflower Wildfire” back in May, the latter of which was produced by Mike Dean, who also co-wrote the song.
Blue Banisters, which is Lana’s second project of 2021 and follows in the footsteps of Chemtrails Over The Country Club, will have 15 tracks, with no reported features. Chemtrails included a guest appearance from Weyes Blood. Upon its release, the project debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
Lana previously opened up on Instagram ahead of “Arcadia’s” release about how the “criticism” she faced recently forced her to “dig deep” and explore her family lineage. “I guess you could say this album is about what it was like, what happened, and what it’s like now,” she wrote. “If you’re interested go back and listen to the first three songs I put out earlier. They chronicle the beginning. This song hits somewhere in the middle and by the time the record drops you will hear where we’re at today. As much as the on going criticism has been trying, it at least has pushed me to explore my own family tree, to dig deep, and to continue to exhibit the fact that God only cares about how I move through the world.”
She went on to say that, “For all of the skepticism about feigning fragility and unreasonable explanations of not showing general accountability- I must say I’ve enjoyed moving through the world beautifully- as a woman with grace and dignity. Thank you to my friends over the last 18 years who have been an example of attraction not promotion. I’ve never felt the need to promote myself or tell my story, but if you’re interested this album does tell it- and does pretty much nothing more.”
