The Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia are in tease mode ahead of the unveiling of something new together.
Tucked into Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards ceremony was a two-song appearance from the Swedish house music trio featuring renditions of their 2021 singles “It Gets Better” and “Lifetime.” The latter, which previously received the Tonight Show treatment, features contributions from the consistently entrancing Ty Dolla Sign and 070 Shake.
During the final seconds of the performance, a clip of The Weeknd’s voice singing the phrase “like a moth to a flame” can be heard:
Following the unveiling of the performance, both Abel and the Mafia team further teased the presumably-soon-to-be-released collab on Instagram.
No other info has been officially released by either artist. Worth noting, however, is the fact that Swedish House Mafia were reported back in April to have hired The Weeknd’s manager Wassim “Sal” Slaiby. Slaiby’s roster also boasts 2021 VMAs host Doja Cat and the aforementioned Ty Dolla Sign.
In August, Abel told the Hollywood Reporter’s Sydney Odman that his After Hours follow-up should be finished “by the end of this month.” Asked to elaborate on what fans can potentially expect with regards to collaborations, the star of the upcoming The Idol elected to plead the fifth. That same month, Abel was among the artists assembled for Kanye West’s Donda.
