Amy Schumer shared with her fans and followers that she recently had to have her uterus and appendix removed due to endometriosis.
On Saturday, the comedian posted a video taken by her husband, Chris Fischer, which showed her in a hospital gown and bed, as she revealed details behind her health. “So, it’s the morning after my surgery for endometriosis and my uterus is out,” Schumer said. “The doctor found 30 spots of endometriosis that he removed. He removed my appendix because the endometriosis had attacked it.
“There was a lot, a lot of blood in my uterus and I’m, you know, sore and I have some, like, gas pains,” she added, captioning the post, “If you have really painful periods you may have #endometriosis.”
The actress and her husband welcomed their now 2-year-old son Gene in 2019 after she went through IVF. “We did IVF and IVF was really tough on me,” she told People last year. “I don’t think I could ever do IVF again.”
Her pregnancy forced her to cancel at least one tour stop that year, after she was hospitalized for hyperemesis gravidarum—a pregnancy condition that includes severe nausea and can result in substantial weight loss.
“I decided that I can’t be pregnant ever again. We thought about a surrogate, but I think we’re going to hold off for right now,” she told People. “Life is so much more beautiful,” she said of motherhood. “He’s the best thing in my life.”
