A Florida man was arrested on Saturday night after he attacked a Polk County Sheriff, stole his stun gun and radio, and attempted to choke him out before two witnesses arrived on the scene to help detain him.
According to ABC News, 37-year-old Jason Robinson confessed to his mother that he had killed his girlfriend, prompting the parent to call the Auburndale Police Department. When the deputy arrived on the scene, Robinson gave the officer a false name and date of birth before attacking him when he was asked to be detained.
While struggling with the officer, two witnesses arrived and helped detain Robinson before additional officers made it to the scene. Sheriff Grady Judd said that things could have taken an even uglier turn if it wasn’t for the two citizens intervening.
“I can’t express my gratitude enough to the two witnesses who jumped in to aid my deputy during a violent fight with a very violent man,” Judd said. “Had they not gotten involved, this could have been much worse than it already is. I’d also like to extend our condolences to the family of the victim.”
Once additional officers arrived, the body of Robinson’s girlfriend was found under a wood pallet by their RV home. Robinson is being charged with first-degree murder along with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, battery on a law enforcement officer, tampering with evidence, resisting with violence, depriving an officer with means to communication, and giving a false ID.
Robinson also has an extensive criminal history, with 19 felonies across several states, including Delaware, Illinois, Mississippi, and North Carolina.
