At least two people are dead after a small plane crashed Monday in a residential neighborhood in Santee, California, a suburban city in San Diego County.

NBC San Diego reports the plane, a twin-engine Cessna C340, struck several homes and multiple vehicles, including a UPS truck, around 12:15 p.m. One of the people who was reported as being killed was a UPS worker.

Deputy Fire Chief Justin Matsushita told reporters that at least two people were killed in the crash, while two others were taken to local hospitals with burn wounds. “It’s a pretty brutal scene for our guys and we’re trying to comb through it,” Matsushita said.

According to officials, the aircraft’s flight plan listed that the plane departed from Yuma, Arizona and was scheduled to land at Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport. The cause of the crash is currently being investigated.

“We do not yet know how many people were on board,” Donnell Evans, a spokesman with the Federal Aviation Administration, told NBC’s San Diego affiliate. “The FAA will release the tail number of the aircraft after investigators verify it at the accident site. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide additional updates.”
