Toronto rapper Pressa’s deluxe version of his 2020 EP Gardner Express is finally here, and he celebrated with a party thrown by girlfriend, fellow rapper Coi Leray.
Aside from Leray, fellow Toronto rapper Smiley was also in attendance.
The deluxe version features seven new tracks alongside Swae Lee, Rowdy Rebel and more. On many, he shines when detailing his fight to make it big. He teams up with Leray on the remix of “Attachments” and laments being used: “Soon as I bought my Cuban chain, she called me back/Soon as I ice out on my wrist, she got attached.” He also shares his internal struggles around leaving his Toronto roots for L.A. which he dives into on “Chocolate Audemars” when he explains that California isn’t home: “California ain’t really for everyone/Chocolate not vanilla uh/I’m a gypsy, I’m a traveler.”
Pressa’s lyrics are as sharp as ever, as he continues to ride the wave of momentum. By navigating his experiences of leaving Toronto’s Driftwood neighbourhood as he continues to grow, Gardner Express (Deluxe) delivers on the realities of knowing who you are, and remembering which parts to carry with you as you evolve.
