OG Maco Opens Up About Battles With Depression and Flesh-Eating Disease

It’s been a while since the world last heard from OG Maco, and he’s taken to Instagram to explain why. The “U Guessed It” rapper has opened up about his battle with a flesh-eating disease known as necrotising fasciitis. “So much healing has occurred thanks to God and my doctors that I’m willing to show ya’ll a fraction of what I’ve been going through,” Maco wrote alongside a picture of his face.
“I was improperly treated for a minor rash and ended up with a skin eating disease for the last few months,” he continued. “This is the best it’s looked. I hope it gives someone hope. I’ve been going through this alone 90% of the time, without the support of the person I love, without most of my ‘friends,’ without anything but my own strength and God.”
He later detailed how his struggles with the disease led him to depression. “I know it took a lot to share any of that, because I’ve been going through this for about three months,” he explained in a video. “Everybody I really thought would be here, who I really thought I could depend on, weren’t there.” The rapper was previously hiding his face behind masks in his Instagram photos, but was inspired to show what he’s been through after a friend encouraged him to open up.
“I was scared, I didn’t know what was going to happen, I didn’t know if I was going to lose my entire face… I almost did,” he said. “My friend told me the other day that maybe I should share what I’ve been going through instead of beating myself down for feeling how I felt about it, which I wanted to die a bunch of days.”
Remaining positive, he closed out the series of posts with a smile. “Once I come out of this, better and more beautiful than ever, I want you guys to be ready… I’m gonna kick ass.”
He thanked his fans for their support on Twitter.
OG Maco previously lost partial sight in his right eye in a car accident back in 2016. Following a number of surgeries, the rapper regained his full vision.
