More than three years since the release of his 2018 project Tana Talk 3, Benny the Butcher has returned with its sequel.
The 12-track project features the previously released J. Cole-featuring single “Johnny P’s Caddy,” as well as guest appearances from Westside Gunn, Conway the Machine, Boldy James, Diddy, Stove God Cooks, and 38 Spesh.
In addition to sharing the project, Benny dropped the video for “10 More Commandments” featuring Diddy, which you can check out up top.
Tana Talk 4 is Benny’s first full-length offering since last year’s seven-track EP Pyrex Picasso, which arrived on the heels of the Buffalo rapper’s other 2021 EP, The Plugs I Met 2. Serving as the official follow-up to his 2020 Burden of Proof album, Tana Talk 4 also marks Benny’s first release since he inked a record deal with Def Jam last November.
During an interview with Tidal’s Chief Content Officer Elliott Wilson, Snoop Dogg recently opened up about how he worked behind the scenes to help Benny sign with Def Jam. After meeting Benny during a recording session with DJ Whoo Kid, Snoop revealed that he asked him about a potential deal with the historic hip-hop label.
“I’m like, ‘What’s up with you and Def Jam?’” Snoop recalled. “He’s like, ‘Oh man, they lowballed me.’ I said, ‘Lowballed you? They don’t know who you is?’ He told me who he was talking to. ‘We’re not going to talk to them. I’m going to call the boss. You’re going to tell the boss what you want, and he’s going to give you what you want and you’re going to sign.’”
Snoop continued, “You can bring me in to do executive shit, but remember I’m an artist, so I’m going to always pattern it for the artist. Especially hip-hop artists. You never know what you’re worth until you overcharge. That’s what we need to know. A lot of times we be scared. No. I go in and overcharge.”
You can stream Tana Talk 4 now on all major platforms.
