Kanye West’s ‘Donda’ Has Been Certified Platinum by RIAA

Written by on March 12, 2022

The artist formerly known as Kanye West has added another platinum album to his name.

Ye’s 10th studio album, Donda, has officially been certified platinum by the RIAA, landing over 1 million equivalent album sales since its August 2021 release.

Donda is Ye’s 9th solo LP to reach this landmark, with his only solo albums not having yet touched 1 million being 2019’s Jesus Is King and 2022’s Donda 2, which was self-released through Ye’s Stem Player just last month. Donda also marked his 9th solo record to top the Billboard 200 albums chart, with the only LP not having done so being his debut The College Dropout

Also seeing RIAA awards this month were “We Don’t Care,” which went gold, “Runaway,” which went 3X platinum, and “Bound 2,” which went 3X platinum.

Donda 2, of course, was determined to be not eligible for the Billboard charts, after Billboard shared that “since the Stem Player is a fairly new concept, people familiar with the matter from both Billboard and MRC say they plan to continue to monitor its evolution as it relates to chart eligibility.” Ye later opened up on Instagram about the charting decision, which he saw as a victory of sorts.

“Big win for the kid,” he wrote. “We can no longer be counted or judged We won we won we won we won We make my own systems We set our own value aaaand yesterdays price is not todays price baaaaabeeeee!!!!!”
