Dame Dash is being ordered to pay $805,000 to the director and producers of the film Dear Frank starring Brian White, Claudia Jordan, Nick Turturro, Lil Durk, and Columbus Short, TMZ reports.
Director Josh Webber and Muddy Water Pictures filed the copyright infringement and defamation lawsuit against Dash three years ago after they alleged that the Roc-A-Fella co-founder was promoting the movie as his own despite the fact that he was kicked out of the production. They also claimed that Dash changed the name of the film in the promotional material he was sharing to make it look like a completely different movie.
Dash was allegedly booted from the project because he would be high on set, despite the fact that he was supposed to be directing the film.
In Dash’s deposition video for the lawsuit, the Roc-A-Fella co-founder claimed that Webber and Muddy Water Pictures were “culture vultures.”
“This doesn’t give you control, it give you no power it just makes you look stupid,” he said to the plaintiffs’ attorney Christopher Brown in the video. “I’ma ruin you as a lawyer. You will never be a lawyer again, I bet you I’ma make you famous. I’m just giving you the rope to hang yourself. You gonna be in a whole other courtroom in a whole other place with your frivolous lawsuits.”
“Culture vulture, you should be disgusted with yourself,” he said later in the footage. “You’ll sell out our whole culture for a dollar.”
Another lawsuit that Dame Dash is dealing with involves ownership of Jay-Z’s debut album, Reasonable Doubt. Roc-A-Fella sued Dash after he allegedly attempted to sell the album as an NFT, and when news began to circulate that they had reached a settlement, Dash took to Instagram to clarify that they hadn’t.
“Please don’t believe this hype we are no where near a settlement,” he wrote. “They accused me of doing something i did not do and now they have to prove it…and i can sell my share anytime I want #askthejudge and #jayz and @biggsburke if you wanna settle this holla at me…we use to hustle together…court is corny…let’s talk like men for the culture…I dare y’all to respond #doitfortheculture.”
