Some of the biggest names in streetwear are about to enter the Akuverse.
Aku—the cryptonative NFT character created by Micah Johnson—has announced the inaugural launch of Akutars, a collection of 15,000 3D avatars that will drop on the Ethereum blockchain. As part of the release, Aku has tapped a number of brands to create unique designs that will appear throughout range. The participating imprints are Billionaire Boys Club, IceCream, Paper Planes, Puma, Upscale Vandal, and WHO DECIDES WAR.
“Akutars are the next step in Aku’s journey and evolving Akuverse,” Johnson said in a press release. “Akutars will give our community, creators and collectors the opportunity to further express themselves creatively alongside iconic, culture-defining brands.”
Akutars owners will be given exclusive access to the Akuverse, which will include different experiences, products, and collaborations. Aku community members who own at least one chapter will be offered an airdrop of free avatars; owning multiple sets will result in more rewards.
The Akutar collection will arrive April 22 on aku.world.
“Aku is the first and only one making art and building a community at the highest level of fashion and culture,” said Pusha-T, a member of Aku’s creative council. “The first Akutar lineup is a family affair of Black creatives coming together to take the Akuverse to the next level.”
