Troopers in Missouri were responding to a crash on Interstate 70 Wednesday when they found 500 pounds of packaged marijuana scattered throughout the highway upon arriving at the scene.
The irony wasn’t lost on them that this incident occurred on 4/20 of all days.
According to KOMU, the accident occurred around 7:15 a.m. when the driver of a semi-truck tried to avoid a previous crash, causing a nearby pickup truck driven by David Mora Navarro to swerve out of control and collide with the rear of the semi-truck. Another semi veered off and struck Navarro’s car. No serious injuries were reported, but the eastbound side of the I-70 was shut down for nearly two hours.
The pickup truck was believed to be carrying all the marijuana that littered the highway.
Navarro and Victor Gonzalez Acosta, the passenger in the pickup truck, were arrested and charged with first-degree drug trafficking. Navarro is also facing a careless driving resulting in a crash charge. Both men were released and taken to the hospital to address moderate injuries.
