Keke Palmer took to Twitter Saturday to discuss a recent encounter involving a fan who allegedly filmed her after she politely declined to take a photo on three separate occasions.
Palmer said she was at a bar when a woman approached her and asked for a picture several times. The Nope actress claimed she “nicely” told her that she didn’t want to take a photo, but the fan “still [proceeded] to film me against my will.”
“No means no, even when it doesn’t pertain to sex. I was at the bar the other day and this girl asked me three times for a picture and I told her three times nicely that I did not want take one with her,” she wrote. “She still preceded to film me against my will.”
Palmer said she “nervously laughed” off the situation, knowing if she were to lash out over someone invading her privacy, it would have placed her in a bad light.
Palmer elaborated even further on the uncomfortable situation on Instagram, admitting that her behavior in the moment wasn’t indicative of how she felt internally.
“Clearly I’m still upset about it,” she captioned the post. “I hated that I smiled, but that is my defense mechanism to laugh or joke in an uncomfortable situation and it misleads people every time.”
“Literally I could be wanting to scream, and on the outside I’m still preforming. The fact that I tell people no at all is therapeutic progress for me,” Palmer added. “Creating boundaries can sometimes be so difficult but when you people please or always try to avoid conflict, you let yourself down every time.”
Back in 2020, Palmer also voiced her desire for privacy amid speculation that she and August Alsina had dated. After someone posted a black-and-white photo of her and August, asking, “This you?,” she responded, “The theme is boundaries. Everybody doesn’t need to know your business, that’s not fake that’s honoring one’s privacy.”
Palmer ended her IG post with some words of advice for anyone who asks to take a photo with her, but this could be applied to everyone who wants a picture with a celebrity. “If you ever want a picture with me and I say no, let’s just let that rock,” she wrote.
