Wisconsin Man Celebrates Eating Big Mac Nearly Every Day for 50 Years

A man in Wisconsin, who holds the Guinness World Record for most Big Macs eaten in a lifetime, returned to the location where it all began 50 years ago.
On May 17, 1972, Donald Gorske drove to his local McDonald’s in Fond du Lac after buying a car off his father, per FDL Reporter. “In that moment I said ‘I’m going to probably eat these for the rest of my life,” Gorske told Guinness. He hit the ground running that day, consuming nine Big Macs.
Gorske has since eaten a Big Mac almost every day, except for eight days, which include discovering that a location was closed in 1982 after driving through a snowstorm and intentionally skipping a day to honor the death of his mother.
His Guinness record for most Big Macs eaten in a lifetime was officially established in 1999 when it stood at 15,490. In August 2021, Gorske’s record was updated to 32,340 Big Macs. According to FDL Reporter, he has eaten a Big Mac in all 50 states and Canada, as well as a few other countries, courtesy of family and friends, where the burger was even given to him unrefrigerated.
Gorske returned to the place where the love affair started to celebrate their 50-year anniversary, and was greeted by a sign outside the restaurant that read “Congrats Don on 50 years of Macs.” His loyalty to the location had already been recognized with his portrait on the wall.
