Patagonia to Cover Bail of Any Employees Arrested at Abortion Protests

Written by on June 25, 2022

Following the Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade on Friday, Patagonia vowed it would cover bail for any employees arrested at peaceful abortion protests.

In an official statement posted on LinkedIn, the clothing company announced that it will provide “training and bail for those who peacefully protest for reproductive justice.” The benefit applies to both full-time and part-time workers, Patagonia confirmed.

“The company will post bail for an employee who has previously taken a non-violent civil disobedience class and is subsequently arrested while peacefully protesting,” Patagonia spokesperson J.J. Huggins told Axios.

In light of Friday’s ruling, countless companies announced plans to reimburse workers for travel and planning costs associated with seeking an abortion. The list includes Amazon, Apple, Disney, JPMorgan Chase, Meta, Microsoft, Netflix, Starbucks, and Tesla, among others.

Meanwhile, numerous public figures, from politicians to celebrities, and athletes, took to social media to speak out against the Supreme Court’s decision.

“Today, the Supreme Court not only reversed nearly 50 years of precedent, it relegated the most intensely personal decision someone can make to the whims of politicians and ideologues—attacking the essential freedoms of millions of Americans,” wrote Barack Obama in a series of tweets on Friday morning, urging people to vote in the midterms this November. “If we want judges who will protect all, and not just some, of our rights, then we’ve got to elect officials committed to doing the same.”
