During his time out of the public eye after a series of serious allegations made against him, Armie Hammer reportedly spent six months in rehab. And according to a new report from Vanity Fair, Hammer’s stint was paid for by none other than Robert Downey Jr.
A source told the outlet that Hammer, who was accused of sexual misconduct, assault, and even cannibalism by various women completed his stay at Florida treatment center The Guest House in December of last year. Downey Jr., who’s had his own issues with addiction is also said to be providing Hammer with financial help outside of rehab as well.
More recently, a video showed Hammer in the Cayman Islands where he was allegedly working a job selling timeshares. An anonymous source recently told Variety that Hammer, who is the great-grandson of oil tycoon Armand Hammer, is working his timeshare job to support his two children with ex-wife, Elizabeth Chambers. “He is working at the resort and selling timeshares. He is working at a cubicle,” the source claimed. “The reality is he’s totally broke, and is trying to fill the days and earn money to support his family.”
When pressed on the veracity of the video, Hammer’s lawyer had this to say to Vanity Fair: “I can’t confirm or deny the report because Armie hasn’t addressed it. I just think it’s shitty that, if he is selling timeshares, the media is shaming him for having a ‘normal job.’”
Throughout the ‘90s and early ‘00s, Downey Jr. repeatedly made headlines for his multiple arrests on drug charges. The actor has been open about his battle with drug addiction, and spent time in various substance abuse treatment facilities. By the time he was cast in Iron Man, which launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Downey said he had been drug-free since 2003. He credited Mel Gibson, who has had plenty of his own controversies, for helping him out during the difficult time in his life.
