For the upcoming series Normal Ain’t Normal, which marks a partnership between BuzzFeed and Offsides Productions, co-producer and co-star Rosario Dawson was drawn to the material due to its exploration of how best to move forward in the pandemic era.
“As millions of people are dealing with rising evictions, racism, and extreme inequality, Normal Ain’t Normal shows that these injustices aren’t the ‘normal’ we want to go back to as a country,” Dawson, who is joined in the cast by D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai and Martin Sensmeier, says of what’s at the heart of the new series. “I’m thrilled to be working with this talented team of artists and creative changemakers who are imagining a new way forward.”
The four-episode scripted series from creators Yvan Iturriaga and Josh Healey centers on four characters in Oakland and takes a look at what is actually required to consider a society healthy, both in the literal sense of the word and in more nuanced ways. In Dawson’s words, viewers can expect an experience that’s “beautiful, provocative, and funny as hell.”
Other recent Offsides Productions projects include the Pancho Pescador mini-doc A Pescador in the Town and the web series The North Pole, the latter of which also featured Dawson. The actress, who will next be seen in Kevin Smith’s Clerks III, is part of the Offsides team in a dual advisor and collaborator role.
