Shavone Celebrates Black Girl Magic in New “4C” Video

Written by on March 29, 2019

Shavone is closing out Women’s History Month with an empowering record called “4C.”

The multi-hyphenate creative released the single and its accompanying video Tuesday, about a month after she released her first track of 2019 “SITH.”

“4C”—a term used to describe a texture type of natural hair—is described as an ode to Black Girl Magic, as it not only highlights, but celebrates the diverse beauty among women of color. The video was shot at Susy Oludele’s Brooklyn Salon, and features more than 20 women who have made their marks in creative fields. Musician Lexxy, makeup artist Raisa Flowers, Okayplayer music editor Ivie Ani, and author Blair Imani are just some of the women who appear in the “4C” video.

“As a creative and unapologetic woman of color, ‘4C’ is so dear to me because the art represents so much of my life and the women who continue to keep me and the rest of the world inspired,” Shavone told Billboard this week.

The “4C” was directed by Curtis Taylor Jr., the creative director of Shavone’s Magic In Her Melanin collective. You can check it out above.
