Two Canadians Make TikTok’s Global Discover List for 2022

TikTok just published its 2022 edition of The Discover List, a compilation of 50 top creators across the globe, and it features two Canadians.
In the “Changemakers” category, TikTok highlighted Kairyn Potts. The youth advocate and former social worker from the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation near Edmonton touches on Indigenous and LGBTQ+ issues.
While Potts’ interests are wide-ranging, his keenness on addressing social problems and how to be more accepting is what drove TikTok to add him to their list.
TikTok also featured a second Canadian on their list, this time in the “Originators” category, which they describe as creators “who’ve started viral dances, sounds, aesthetics and more.”
Mei Pang is a content creator who specializes in makeup and tattoos. Her style is often wildly inventive, creating patterns that sometimes require hours of preparation. The “Originators” list aims to highlight trendsetters thinking outside of the box.
Both creators are gaining in popularity with Potts hovering near the 250,000 subscriber mark, and Pang drawing 2.5 million users to her account.
It’s the second year TikTok has made this list. “Discover List creators continue to foster a global community on TikTok that celebrates creativity, discovery, and authentic expression — they entertain, shine light on important topics, educate, and inspire,” TikTok said in their announcement. “Whether they’re empowering others to learn something new, challenging viewers to try trending recipes, or inspiring their audience to join movements that advocate for lasting, positive change, these creators impact culture and society as we know it.”
