Rapper Who Used Capitol Riot Photo as Album Cover Gets Five-Month Sentence

Written by on December 22, 2022

A Virginia man was sentenced to five months in prison on Monday after pleading guilty to four misdemeanor counts last year in connection to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot

According to WUSA, Antionne Brodnax, who goes by the rap name Bugzie the Don, took a photo of himself smoking a blunt while sitting atop an SUV seemingly during the Capitol riot. The image was later used as the album cover for his 2021 album The Capital

Prosecutors requested a prison sentence of 21 months, citing previous convictions for manufacturing a controlled substance and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The Justice Department argued for a lengthy punishment after Brodnax allegedly promised to hand over photos and videos on his phone from Jan. 6 to the FBI, only to delete them.

Prior to pleading guilty, Brodnax rejected a plea deal on a single count. His attorney Mary Maguire sought a probationary sentence with time spent on home detention, claiming he was a “great community asset” who managed a clothing line and music label.

U.S. District Judge Paul Friedman ruled that he had willfully obstructed the administration of justice. “He’s had a problem historically with following conditions imposed upon him,” Friedman said during his sentencing.

Brodnax was ordered to a year of supervised release once he completes his five month sentence.
