Young Thug might be facing more legal problems.
According to WSBTV reporter Michael Seiden, the 31-year-old born Jeffery Lamar Williams is accused of making a hand-to-hand drug exchange during his ongoing RICO trial.
Seiden shared court surveillance footage of the alleged transfer between Thug and co-defendant Kahlieff Adams. Investigators say Thug was sitting next to his attorney when Adams approached him and shook his hand. It was at that moment Adams allegedly slipped Thug a Percocet.
Authorities say a deputy saw the transfer and immediately confronted Thug, who then handed the pill over. Deputies began searching Adams for any additional drugs. They claim the search yielded more Percocet as well as marijuana and tobacco, which were “wrapped in plastic and food seasonings to conceal the odor.”
Officials claim Adams ingested some contraband in an attempt to conceal it. He was subsequently taken to the hospital.
Attorney Keith Adams told the media Thug was uninvolved in the man’s actions.
“The reality is Mr. Williams had nothing to do with what went on in the courtroom…yesterday,” he stated, as seen below. “One of the co-defendants, on his way to the restroom, attempted to pass something to Mr. Williams, who immediately turned it over to the deputy. … Did not know what it was, turned it over to the deputy right away.”
Thug and other YSL associates are standing trial for violating Georgia’s anti-racketeering laws. Prosecutors say the Punk rapper co-founded a criminal street gang that committed a number of violent acts, including murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and attempted armed robbery.
Thugger’s attorneys have denied the allegations and insisted YSL was nothing more than a record label and fashion brand. If convicted, Thug will face up to 20 years behind bars and a $250,000 fine.
Juror selection commenced this month and will likely go through “the end of February with opening statements to take place shortly after jurors are selected,” per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The footage surfaced shortly after the arrest of Latasha Kendrick, the mother of Thug’s co-defendant Yak Gotti. Authorities say the woman tried sneaking rolling papers into a Fulton County court room during the RICO trial. She was charged with one count of criminal attempt to commit a misdemeanor.
