Best New Canadian Tracks This Week: Road Runner, Idman, Sylo

It’s hard to keep up with new tracks every week. With a bevy of songs being released every day, we made a list highlighting some new tracks from Canadian artists.
Road Runner, “Should I End It?”
With a song title as morbid as Road Runner’s latest single, the Toronto rapper sounds as motivated as ever, turning down reasons to call it quits. “If there’s a will, there’s a way,” Road Runner raps on the track, pushing forward through the vices that plagued him in the past.
D-Track, “Ville déserte”
Hull’s D-Track raps like a warm knife cutting through butter on his new track “Ville déserte.” The beat is simple and straightforward, allowing D-Track to float over the track for nearly four straight minutes without missing a step.
Idman, “Hate”
The sincerity in Toronto artist Idman’s latest single “Hate” is palpable. The loss of her partner weighs over her so strongly, the pain leaps out in her voice, especially in the chorus.
Chin Injeti, “All For Nothing”
Chin Injeti has been at it for decades now and his first song of the year is a masterclass in R&B with shimmering production, sultry vocals and intimate lyrics. It’s a pretty traditional track, but Injeti ticks all the boxes at making expert-level R&B.
Wynne Badoe, “Rush”
“Rush” is Ottawa artist Wynne Badoe’s latest duet with Ishamere. It’s a “will-they-won’t-they” type storyline in the form of a song. Both artists are trying to come together, but their respective verses show just how anxious they get when talking about getting more serious with each other.
Sylo, “What’s Left?”
Sylo’s latest EP blanket perfectly describes the feeling his music evokes. Backed by a gentle assortment of strings and quaint drums, Sylo’s music is best suited for self-reflecting listening sessions. “What’s Left?,” the project’s closing track, succeeds at looking inward with lyrics that see the Toronto singer wear his heart on his sleeve.
Derin Falana, “Good Problems”
“Good Problems” sounds like the song equivalent of a recap from a TV show that’s returning to air years after being cancelled. Fortunately for Brampton’s Derin Falana, he sounds as sharp as he did on his Don’t Save Me EP from 2019.
