UD x The University Of East London To Launch New Music Degree Courses
Written by SOURCE on January 24, 2023
Last summer, we brought you news that UD (United Development, fka Urban Development) had partnered with East London Dance to open their massive Talent House in Stratford, East London. London Mayor Sadiq Khan visited Stratford to officially open the building—which is worth over £4m—and they also announced Ray BLK as ambassador.
Their plans have continued to expand since then and now, as the new term approaches, they’ve just announced two new Level 4 courses (which are the equivalent of the first year of university and will be awarded by the University of East London) that will focus on Black music culture.
Students will learn directly from industry professionals working in record labels, social media, publishing and the live sector. Covering everything from creating and performing material to the marketing and publishing of the work, the courses have been designed to give aspiring artists, producers and musicians a full, three-dimensional understanding of how to make music as well as navigate the industry itself.
“As my career has moved from being an artist and a producer to an educator, I’ve always been interested in being able to create opportunities for producers and artists to grow and evolve,” says Tony ‘The Wach’ Nwachukwu, a legendary DJ and producer and now lecturer and course leader at UEL. “The great thing about being at UD and being at UEL,” he adds, “is that you’re in a supportive environment, an experimental environment. It’s an opportunity for you to really discover what your passions are and what your potential is and have the opportunity to try different things out.”
You can read the Level 4 prospectus here. All applications should be submitted via UCAS.
