Woody Harrelson has landed in hot water for referencing anti-vaccination conspiracies during his opening monologue on this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live.
Woody mentioned his controversial stance on vaccination while talking about the “craziest script” he’s ever read, which referenced the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the medical industry and government’s desire to push vaccines.
“So the movie goes like this,” Harrelson explained. “The biggest drug cartels in the world get together and buy up all the media and all the politicians and force all the people in the world to stay locked in their homes. And people can only come out if they take the cartel’s drugs and keep taking them over and over.”
“I threw the script away,” Harrelson continued. “I mean, who was going to believe that crazy idea? Being forced to do drugs? I do that voluntarily all day.”
It didn’t take long for many people on social media to call out Harrelson’s monologue. However, not everyone disagreed with the actor’s rant.
Elon Musk hopped on Twitter to applaud NBC for airing Harrelson’s anti-vaccination thoughts. “Nice work @nbcsnl!” Musk wrote. The Twitter CEO also ripped media outlets for attacking Harrelson.
When one Twitter user posted screenshots of headlines that referred to Woody’s monologue as “anti-vax,” Musk wrote, “Maybe they don’t realize that their propaganda is wrong?”
