Logic Addresses Cover Criticism, Says He Received Ice Cube’s Approval

Logic has once again responded to criticism of his cover of Ice Cube’s “It Was a Good Day.”
In a post shared on TikTok, the Maryland rapper replied to a fan who suggested that he should release a full covers album, adding that he got Ice Cube’s stamp of approval for the cover. “You know it’s funny you should say that,” he said. “Because I thought about doing that. Wouldn’t that be cool? Everybody’s all pissed off at me because I did a fucking Ice Cube cover. Meanwhile I texted Ice Cube and he’s like, ‘Man, keep on doing you brother.’ Like, what the… Who gives a fuck? Who gives a fuck!”
Logic went on to suggest that the idea of a whole covers album would be “great,” despite the hate he’s gotten for covering the former N.W.A. rapper’s classic record. “You’re right,” he continued. “I should do a whole fucking album, and just do a whole album of fucking hard ass 90s records and call it Logic Greatest Hits, and get all them paid, and publishing, and take care of all the legends and the goat’s and the great’s from the 90s. And fucking do a covers album, who gives a fuck.”

While Ice Cube apparently has no issue with the cover, his son, O’Shea Jackson Jr. certainly did. Earlier this month, the Cocaine Bear actor said that he “respect[s]” Logic as a rapper but wasn’t happy about hearing him rap lines originally about his mother, Kimberly Woodruff. I think he can rap. And that’s all I really need,” he wrote upon reposting the clip. “But bruh… if [I] ever hear you sing about my mother again… it’s gone be a misunderstanding lmaoooo.”
Logic first responded to the criticism while sharing a clip from a 2015 interview, in which he proclaimed he doesn’t “fuck with nobody.” Others critical of the cover include Joe Budden, who questioned if Logic is “allowed to say n***a” and begged him to “never step near a recording device again.”
