John Wick: Chapter 4 is giving Lionsgate much to brag about as we all roll into a new week.

Over the weekend, the fourth entry in the still-going-very-very-very-strong action franchise brought in $73.5 million at the domestic box office. This marks a remarkable franchise-best showing at the box office, breaking the record previously held by John Wick: Chapter 3, which opened to $56.8 million in 2019.

As broken down by Box Office Mojo, John Wick: Chapter 4 opened in 3,855 theaters in the U.S. on Friday. That day alone, the Chad Stahelski-directed film brought in $29.4 million, all while stacking up glowing reviews and expressions of appreciation for a franchise that has defiantly refused to waver nearly a decade after the original film became a surprise megahit.

Outside of the U.S., John Wick: Chapter 4 is reported to have made another $64 million in its first three days of release. This brings the global opening weekend total to $137.5 million.

Keanu Reeves returns as the title character in the fourth installment in the increasingly beloved series, this time taking his battle against the High Table to the worldwide stage by engaging in crowd-thrillingly Wickian activities everywhere from New York to Paris.

Where the series goes from here in terms of main franchise entries is anyone’s guess, though prior comments from those involved with Chapter 4 all but confirm that it will continue in some form. All that’s confirmed thus far on the theatrical front is the upcoming spinoff film Ballerina starring recent Oscar nominee Ana de Armas.
