In one of boxing’s most anticipated fights, Gervonta “Tank” Davis moved to 29-0 after handing Ryan Garcia a TKO loss in Las Vegas last night. Not only did Davis deliver a superstar-caliber performance in the biggest bout of his career to date, but he may also have cemented himself as the new face of his sport.
Davis is also becoming a star in the sneaker space, primarily due to his custom sneaker-inspired boxing boots made by The Shoe Surgeon. Most notably, he famously laced up a pair borrowing cues from the “Grinch” Nike Kobe 6 against Isaac Cruz in December 2021. For last night’s fight, Davis’ boots inherited the look of another Nike classic–the “Skunk” SB Dunk High.
Released in 2010, the “Skunk” Dunk was created by renowned artist Todd Bratrud. Widely regarded as the greatest “weed” sneaker of all time, the Dunks feature a multicolor fuzzy suede upper that references the colors of various strains. The Shoe Surgeon, who released custom “Skunk” Dunk Lows and Air Jordan 4s to celebrate this year’s 4/20 festivities, brought the aesthetic to Davis’ fight night boots.
Davis isn’t The Shoe Surgeon’s only client in boxing. In Caleb Plant’s most recent fight, he’s worn custom boots inspired by the “Freddy Krueger” and “What The” SB Dunks.
