‘Avengers: Endgame’ Kicks off Historic Weekend With Record-Setting Opening Day

Avengers: Endgame has finally hit theaters, and as expected, it’s already shattering records. The Marvel epic already brought in the biggest opening day at the Chinese box office when it opened on April 23 to $102 million, and now it’s pulled off the same feat in the States. As Variety reports, Endgame grossed $156.7 million on Friday, making it the highest opening day of all-time in the U.S.
What’s most impressive about the number, is that the previous record holder was The Force Awakens, which brought in $119 million on its opening day. That’s a big jump, and it fared even better when compared to its 2018 predecessor, Infinity War, which brought in $106.3 million. With both the biggest international debut and the biggest domestic debut, Endgame could very well be on its way to surpass Avatar as the highest-grossing film of all-time.

The film is on track for a staggering $345 million opening domestic weekend, and has already brought in a worldwide total of $643.7 million. In fact, it could hit the $1 billion mark in just one week. Infinity War currently holds the record for largest opening weekend at $257.7 million, but that won’t be the case for much longer. As the culmination of over a decade of universe-building, Endgame has more than lived up to the hype both critically and commercially. Just ask LeSean McCoy.
