The University of North Carolina-Charlotte remained on lockdown Tuesday night, following a deadly shooting on campus.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, two people were found dead at the scene, and four others were hospitalized with injuries that ranged from life-threatening to non-life-threatening. Officials have not confirmed the identities of the victims or if they were enrolled at the school.
Officials said five shots were fired at around 5:45 p.m. local time near UNCC’s Kennedy Building. Allison Latos of WSOCTV reports police have one suspect—a 22-year-old male student—in custody.
A UNCC student spoke to WSOCTV about the moment he learned about the shooting. He said he was on his way to a Waka Flocka concert on campus, when he was alerted about the lockdown.
“It was terrifying—did not expect it in the least,” the student told the station over the phone.
Stay tuned as more information about the shooting becomes available.
