Tiger Woods was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Donald Trump in a ceremony at the White House’s Rose Garden on Monday.
Woods was joined by his mother, his two children, girlfriend Erica Herman, and longtime caddie, Joe LaCava.
“Tiger Woods is a global symbol of American excellence, devotion and drive,” Trump said of Woods, per NPR. “These qualities embody the American spirit of pushing boundaries, defying limits and always striving for greatness.”
Trump declared that Woods would become the fourth golfer ever to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom following his first Masters victory since 2005. It was also Tiger’s first major win in nearly 11 years.
“You’ve seen the good and bad, the highs and lows, and I would not be in this position without all of your help,” an emotional Woods said of his family, according to ESPN.
Back in February, Trump guaranteed that Woods “will be winning Majors again” after the two played golf with fellow Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Jack Nicklaus.
Woods also designed the course at the Trump World Golf Club in Dubai.
