The performance came on the heels of Khaled’s recently released 11th studio album Father of Asahd. The 15-track album boasts an impressive list of guest contributions.
Since the release of Father of Asahd, Khaled has dropped off several accompanying music videos (and plans to drop more). He shared the visuals for “You Stay” with J Balvin, Meek Mill, Lil Baby, and Jeremih, “Jealous” with Lil Wayne, Big Sean, and Chris Brown, “Celebrate” with Travis Scott and Post Malone, “Just Us” with SZA, and “Higher” featuring John Legend and the late Nipsey Hussle.
Prior to releasing the track and video for “Higher,” Khaled shared a note about the collaboration and reflected on the passing of Nipsey Hussle.
“Recently, I embarked on a soul-searching journey down a road I never thought I would travel in a million years. It began when a tragedy robbed the world of an enlightened soul, a brother, a father, a partner and my friend, Nipsey Hussle,” Khaled wrote in the note. “Just days prior, he shared his energy and positivity with me on a video set for a song called ‘Higher.’ After much prayer and reflection; and with the full blessing of the Asghedom family, I am sharing that moment with the world.”
