White House Reportedly Requested USS John McCain Be ‘Out of Sight’ for Trump Visit

Written by on May 30, 2019

According to an email obtained by the Wall Street Journal, the White House requested that the U.S. Navy move the USS John S. McCain warship, named after the late senator from Arizona, “out of sight” before Donald Trump was to arrive in Japan for a visit. Trump has previously expressed disdain for John McCain on multiple occasions, including after he had passed away on August 25, 2018 at the age of 81.

“USS John McCain needs to be out of sight,” said email, which was from May 15, reportedly read. “Please confirm #3 will be satisfied.”

Trump later took to Twitter to deny the report and said he “was not informed about anything having to do with the Navy Ship USS John S. McCain during my recent visit to Japan.”

The late senator’s daughter, Meghan McCain, responded to the report and called Trump “a child…”
