Windhorst: Clippers Are ‘Hyperventilating’ Over Kawhi Leonard’s Decision

It’s no surprise that Kawhi Leonard, the driving force behind the NBA Champion Toronto Raptors, is attracting offers from around the league. Still, the sheer amount of interest in Leonard is causing teams that once thought of themselves as frontrunners in the contest to land Leonard to sweat a bit.
According to ESPN‘s Brian Windhorst, the Clippers are nervous about the possibility of Leonard talking with the star-hungry New York Knicks. Windhorst reported to Get Up that the team is sweating Leonard’s every move while trying to woo him away from The North.
“Internally, they’re hyperventilating right now,” Windhorst said, before noting that he thinks Toronto and Los Angeles are the best bets to land Leonard. “I think Kawhi will give the Knicks a look. I think his decision will be staying with the Raptors, likely on a short deal, a one-plus-one deal. Or look at the LA Clippers where he can invest in going forward.”
Kawhi seems interested in heading back to his hometown and with so much of the Lakers’ money tied up in LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Clippers look like the frontrunners if Leonard decides to move.
“The reality is, Kawhi Leonard is focused on Los Angeles, but it’s the Clippers not the Lakers,” Adrian Wojnarowski said on Get Up earlier this week. “Number one: they don’t have the money to sign him. And two: the idea of him being the third wheel on a team trying to create a super team—that has not been Kawhi’s M.O.”
