In lieu of the upcoming release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, cast members Tom Holland (Peter Parker), Zendaya (MJ), and Jake Gyllenhaal (Mysterio) surprised kids at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles last week dressed in their characters’ ensembles. In a touching video that captured their visit, the children marveled at Holland’s effortless backflip, took photos with the Spider-Man stars, and received autographs and high-fives from the superheroes.
In addition to meeting the three actors, the children watched an advanced screening of Spider-Man: Far From Home before it hits theaters on Tuesday. “We wanted them to be the first people here on the West Coast to see it,” Holland says in the clip, before surprising the movie-goers. “This is going to be really fun.”
In another interaction, Holland talks to a patient who happens to be one of his biggest fans. “I love you, and that you shoot webs,” the child tells him. “You like it when I shoot the webs? Well, I actually used all my webs on my way over here,” he replies.
In 2017, Holland similarly visited the hospital when Spider-Man: Homecoming was first inducted into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Clad in his hip-hugging spidey suit, Holland visited with the patients, handed out high-fives, and distributed autographs to all his fans.
The upcoming Spider-Man film arrived in domestic theaters today, July 2. Directed by Jon Watts, the final MCU film of 2019 netted $111 million over the weekend in Japan, China, and Hong Kong. In addition to its star-studded cast, which includes Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, and Jon Favreau, the movie has received a standing ovation from critics who have given it a 93 percent “certified fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
