Twitter DMs Are Down and Everyone Is Making the Same Joke

Twitter’s direct-messaging is down, and if you haven’t noticed you’re apparently not alone.
According to the site Down Detector, which reports on real-time outages, users began reporting issues on Wednesday about Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook not functioning properly. Twitter’s direct-messaging was widely affected, according to the complaints, prompting people to turn to traditional tweets to make the same joke about never getting DMs anyway.
Others used the opportunity to laugh at the need to turn to underused messaging services like gchat in lieu of the social media platforms’ malfunction. Some turned to hysteria.
Twitter notified users of the outage in a statement on their platform, confirming that it is “having some issues with DM delivery and notifications.”
In a statement to People, a Facebook spokesperson said: “We’re aware that some people and businesses are currently having trouble uploading or sending images, videos and other files on our apps. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.”
As noted by the Washington Post’s Gene Parker, the Fourth of July must have come early this year.
“Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp are down and Twitter dms are broken,” he tweeted. “Today is our Independence Day.”
