‘Star Wars’ Unveils Sith Trooper’s New Look in ‘The Rise of Skywalker’

Written by on July 11, 2019

Ahead of San Diego Comic-Con 2019 later this month, Star Wars has unveiled the new look of the Sith Troopers in the upcoming film The Rise of Skywalker.

This new iteration, which we will try not to refer as Bith Troopers, will be a part of a special exhibit displaying other Stormtrooper designs throughout the franchise’s history at this year’s Comic-Con.

Lucasfilm’s official The Star Wars Show/Starwars.com calls the new all-red armored look “a modern and more menacing look befitting its namesake.”

“It has some really unique aesthetics to it,” Lucasfilm archivist Madlyn Burkert said. “And it has some subtle ties to previous stormtrooper designs, which I think fans will enjoy discovering.”

The predominantly red attire of these latest Sith Troopers harkens back to the garb worn by Emperor Palpatine’s Imperial Royal Guard in 1983’s Star Wars: Return of the Jedi

Anyone who saw The Last Jedi recalls how much the color red played into everything related to Supreme Leader Snoke. The character’s Elite Praetorian Guard wore bright red armor and robes while stationed in Snoke’s Throne Room, which was more of a deep red.

Rise of Skywalker director J. J. Abrams may have taken a liking to the red aesthetic used in Last Jedi, and decided to somehow use it in his own film.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20.
