Joe Russo Jokes About This Character’s Death in ‘Avengers: Endgame’

Written by on July 29, 2019

In the aftermath of Avengers: Endgamethe public is still reeling over a particular character’s fateful ending, and if you’re still reading this and haven’t seen the box-office hit, you should probably avert your eyes now.

On Monday, Twitter users began circulating a quote Endgame co-creator Joe Russo allegedly said while appearing on the Tonight Show. “When I heard Tony Stark say ‘billionaire, playboy, philanthropist’ in the first Avengers, I decided right then he would be the causality of Endgame,” Russo allegedly said. “I know he is loved by many. But he is not loved by me. He needs to go.” This prompted somewhat of a digital meltdown

Naturally, Russo took to Twitter on Monday to joke about the reasoning behind Tony Stark’s death—and deny the legitimacy of the aforementioned quote. “To set the record straight, this quote is completely fake,” he wrote. “It’s an obvious falsehood, and utterly ridiculous. I actually wanted Tony dead in Civil War.

Particularly sensitive fans of the Avengers were naturally angered by the fake quote, however that’s not to say they were necessarily happy with Russo’s comical response.
