Canadian Teens Suspected of Murder Found Dead by Police

Written by on August 7, 2019

Last month it was reported that two Canadian teens who were originally reported as missing were suspected of murder. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police revealed that 19-year-old Kam McLeod and 18-year-old Bryer Schmegelsky were wanted for the murder of road-tripping couple, 24-year-old Chynna Deese and 23-year-old Lucas Fowler. They had also been suspected of killing another man, 64-year-old University of British Columbia lecturer Leonard Dyck.

The New York Times reports that both suspects have now been found dead. Police had been searching for the two suspects for two weeks. An autopsy is currently underway to confirm their identities, but Assistant Commissioner Jane MacLatchy said she’s confident the bodies were that of the teenagers.

The investigation reportedly had a breakthrough on Friday after police discovered a number of personal items by the shore of the Nelson River. Both of their bodies were found around a kilometer away from their belongings.  In a tweet, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said, “The search is over.” The cause of death for both suspects was not revealed.

Fowler and Deese, two of the suspected killer’s victims, were last seen on July 13 before their bodies were found July 15. The third victim connected to the teenagers, Dyck, was found shot dead on July 19.
