Alfie Allen Thinks ‘Game of Thrones’ Critics Went Too Far

Written by on August 21, 2019

Alfie Allen knows the final Game of Thrones season disappointed many fans. But he has a note for would-be trolls and detractors: stick to the big fish. Allen said that what makes him angriest about Thrones criticism is the way that it has emboldened idiots to go after the workaday members of the crew.

“What pisses me off is when you see people like the camera operators, who are the best in the world—people behind the scenes who break their backs for this show—who are then getting trolled online by people,” he said in an interview with Deadline

Allen revealed he doesn’t engage with the commentariat too often, but felt he had to speak up about harrasment of the people who make the set go. “I can’t even delve into that world too much, for my own sanity. But to read all that stuff,” he said. “People laying into the DPs. It blows my mind.”

He’s not the only semi-Stark who has rallied to the defense of the show. Kit Harington recently opened up about the way plot threads were resolved and defended his killing of Daenerys by explaining the work tht went into that scene. “We felt a sense of responsibility over it,” Harington said. “We shot the hell out of it. It was essentially a page and a half of dialogue, and we spent three weeks filming it. They wanted to shoot every conceivable angle, every way, to make sure they got it the way they wanted it.”

In Allen’s interview, the actor behind Theon attributed the backlash against Thrones to a bit of separation anxiety. “I think we’ve seen it before, in other shows that have been massive, where people didn’t agree with how things ended. Where people are like, ‘This is not really feeding what I need anymore.'”
