Grizzlies Reportedly ‘Refusing’ Buyout Talks With Andre Iguodala

Written by on September 10, 2019

The Memphis Grizzlies want Andre Iguodala to report to training camp next month since the team is “refusing right now” to engage in talks of a buyout, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The situation with Iguodala is further complicated by the fact that the 2019-20 campaign could be his final season in the league, meaning his potential farewell tour could involve him competing on a franchise that shows no signs of making a legitimate push for postseason play.

Late last month, the Grizzlies reached a buyout agreement with Dwight Howard, less than two months after he was acquired in a trade with the Washington Wizards for C.J. Miles. Memphis traded for Howard with the intention of either waiving or releasing him in an effort to clear the league’s cap floor requirements.

When the Grizzlies snagged Iguodala from the Golden State Warriors just days after acquiring Howard, it was widely believed that Iggy would be subjected to same treatment as his predecessor. However, Memphis switched course after realizing how hot of a commodity they had in the 2015 NBA Finals MVP.

With multiple playoff contenders vying for Iguodala’s services, the Grizzlies would prefer to cash in on their investment, instead of just letting him go.

And the Grizzlies continue to hold on strong.
