Dwayne Johnson Thanks Vin Diesel for All His Support, Hints at On-Screen Reunion

Written by on September 29, 2019

This just in: Dwayne Johnson is still a class act.

The 47-year-old action star hit up Instagram on Saturday to share a quick thank-you message to all his fans—specifically those who helped make his Fast and the Furious spinoff a box off success.

“I just want to say thank you guys so, so much,” Johnson said in a video. “You have officially made Hobbs & Shaw not only a massive, global success—as we’ve just crossed $750 million dollars at the global box office—but also, you helped enable a build-out and an expansion of the Fast and Furious universe.”

The newly married actor went on to thank Universal Studios, his Hobbs & Shaw cast mates as well as the entire team behind the film. Johnson then gave a somewhat surprising shout-out to his Fast & Furious co-star Vin Diesel.

“Lastly, but not least, I want to thank brother Vin for your support of Hobbs & Shaw,” the actor said, suggesting the they have officially squashed their beef. “… What a wild ride this has been [since] 10 years ago, when you and I spoke and you invited me into the Fast & Furious family. I’m grateful for that invite. As you know, my goal was always, all these years, to come into the Fast & Furious world and help elevate the franchise in any way that I possibly could … We did it the right way, we did it the smart way, and again, brother, I appreciate your support.”

Johnson concluded his video with a reference to Diesel’s Fast & Furious character, igniting theories of an on-screen reunion: “And of course, all roads lead to one thing … I’ll be seeing you soon, Toretto.”

The tension between Johnson and Diesel reportedly began back in 2016 while they were filming The Fate of the Furious. During production, Johnson had posted a video in which he referred to unidentified male co-stars as “candy asses” who lacked professionalism. It was later reported that Diesel was one of the “candy asses” in question.

Johnson addressed the beef during a 2017 interview Entertainment Tonight, insisting it wasn’t a big deal.

“Oftentimes, just like in life, you have different philosophies and people have different fundamental philosophies on how you do things,” he said. “And again, the most important thing is just the movie.”

Diesel echoed the sentiment: “We still love each other, that’s my boy,” Diesel says of his costar. “When I was making that difficult decision, should there be an 8 or not, I called [Johnson] and he said, ‘Brother, I will be there shoulder to shoulder with you to make sure it’s the best movie in history.’ And he delivered.”
