Anthony Davis Suffered a Grade 1 Thumb Sprain in Preseason Game Against Nets

Written by on October 13, 2019

Anthony Davis gave fans a bit of a scare this weekend.

During the Lakers’ preseason matchup against the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday, the star forward was sustained a finger injury after swatting at the ball during the first quarter. Davis was later seen icing his wrapped hand, and was ultimately taken out for the rest of the game.

Thankfully for Lakers fans, the injury doesn’t seem to be serious. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Davis is believed to have suffered a Grade 1 sprain to his right thumb. Though initial exams showed no indication of ligament damage, the athlete will undergo an MRI this Sunday for a more conclusive diagnosis.

Davis missed playing time last year and early 2019 after suffering an elbow sprain, a quad injury and a sprained left index finger. Here’s hoping the 26-year-old makes an adequate recovery before the Lakers open the regular season against the Los Angeles Clippers in 10 days.
