Broncos’ Joe Flacco Blasts Coaches for Playing It Safe in Loss to Colts

The Indianapolis Colts needed a last-second, 51-yard game-winning field goal from Adam Vinatieri and a jaw-dropping play from quarterback Jacoby Brissett to help give the Colts a 15-13 win over the Denver Broncos.
All that, however, could have been avoided by the Broncos if they didn’t play scared in their final drive of the game. This criticism ironically comes from Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco a.k.a. “Checkdown Joe,” who gained that moniker during the latter years of his time with the Baltimore Ravens for the way he would actively avoid throwing it deep in favor of a shorter, safer throw.
Following Sunday’s loss, Flacco criticized the Broncos’ coaching staff for choosing to be conservative by running the ball on third down and forcing the Colts to call their final timeout, instead of going for the first down to ice the game.
The Broncos are now 2-6.
